Chemical Free - Everything Cream!

Making the Everything Cream!

For about 1/2 cup (which lasts a long time) find a small 1/2 cup - 1 cup sized jar or storage container and use about 1/2 cup of organic, unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil and about 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. Mix ingredients together in a bowl and place in your jar & use!

Watch just how easy it is to make!  If I wasn't talking so much, it would be even quicker!

Some of the ways that I use this Everything Cream is for sunburnt skin, shaving cream, baby butts, moisturizing, calming, make up remover, underarm freshener, soothing chest, back and foot rub and even toothpaste!

When in doubt - use it!  You won't be disappointed!

Weekend Oily Tip! - Waking Up Early...

It happens to all of us occasionally.  Your children wake up WAY earlier than you want them to.  They don't care that it's the weekend! I have found some all natural products to help you get going and stay going through the day even though you didn't get the sleep you desired.

1.  NingXia Red - I like taking a shot (1-2 oz) of NingXia Red when I get up in the morning (or as soon as I remember and have a chance!).  Young Living states that, "NingXia Red is a whole-body nutrient infusion featuring wolfberry puree, superfruit extracts and citrus essential oils.  Its balanced ingredients will energize, fortify and revitalize the body from head to toe!"  When taken regularly, NingXia Red may help prevent against oxidative stress and it may support normal cellular function and eye health.  It's great for all ages!  My kids love it!  I even made ice pops out of NingXia Red!  I'll have to post about that soon.  Talk about a healthy summer treat!

2.  Essential Oils - Once I have a chance to change out of my pajamas, I roll on my Get Up & Go combo of Young Living Essential Oils.  My customized blend is quite invigorating and uses, Orange Essential Oil, Wintergreen Essential Oil and YL's trademarked blend En-R-Gee Essential Oil topped with a carrier oil (I have been using Castor Oil a lot lately).  I apply this combo along the Triple Warmer Meridian, on the Chakras and Organ Reflex and on the Neurovascular and Vitaflex Points for the Thyroid, Pituitary and Adrenal Glands.  Supporting the Thyroid, Pituitary and Adrenal Glands may help to give you the energy you need too!  Depending on the type of day it is, I may apply more than once.  Sometimes I use my Get Up & Go roller 2-3 times throughout the day!

3.  NingXia Nitro - When I'm starting to feel that afternoon slump, or shortly before, I'll have a tube of NingXia Nitro.  Its convenient size makes it great for on the go!  YL states, "Formulated with an exclusive blend of pure essential oils, botanical extracts, and Bioenergy D-Ribose, NingXia Nitro is a great support for body and mind. Naturally occurring caffeine helps increase athletic performance and endurance, boosts energy and provides a daily pick-me up."  This is such a better alternative to chemical & sugar laden energy drinks.  And this works too!  If drinking it straight from the tube is a bit awkward, it can be added to orange juice, or just squeezed into a small glass.

So give these a try the next time your kids force you out of bed before you're ready!  Let me know what you think!

Chemical Free! - Our Favorite Children's Toothpaste!

I love this product so I'm sharing about it!
Have you heard about the negative side effects of fluoride? Are you interested in keeping your kids' teeth healthy without unnecessary chemicals? Did you know that many toothpastes have tiny bits of plastic (AKA Microbeads, AKA polyethylene) in them that can get stuck in gums until the dentist digs them out???
As I became more aware of fluoride, I decided that it just wasn't worth it for my kids to continue using toothpastes with fluoride to brush their teeth. I tried searching for the best kids' toothpastes on the market and just wasn't happy with what I found, until I came across Young Living's KidScents Slique Toothpaste! It's perfect! JD even likes it - as it is not "spicy" at all!!! Now I don't have to worry about fluoride, plastic particles getting stuck in their gums, or any other scary and unnecessary ingredients in my kids toothpaste! And they all enjoy brushing their teeth again!
Since we have 3 children using the toothpaste, I do make sure that we are using only a pea sized amount. More isn't always beneficial and I don't want to waste this goodness!
I'm so thankful that YL carries more than just essential oils!

NATURE! - LIVING IN NATURE!

Now it is time for me to Live In Nature with my family!  I've grown up, learned a lot/matured and now I'm ready to share my love of nature and the environment with my children.  (Read my previous two posts to get a full background of how I reached this point - Growing up in Nature and Maturing in Nature.)  Luckily, my three children love being outdoors!  Maybe it's genetic, maybe it's not.  Regardless, I am going to do what I can to help encourage and strengthen that love of nature!  We explore, create, play and restore.  Sometimes with the seasons in the Midwest, that can be challenging, but we do our best!

In the spring, the kids are always excited to get outside and start playing on the beach again or fishing.  From March through November, if the weather cooperates you will find us outside!  Our oldest, D, loves fishing.  And we encourage that as much as possible!  As soon as the ice begins to melt off the lake, D wants to get out and start fishing again!  We love his dedication!  J (#2) is always anxious to start building, digging and playing with his construction equipment on the beach!  There's a chance we have a future civil engineer, landscape architect or construction manager on our hands!  C (our youngest) just loves being in the mix.  She tries to fish with D and build with J.  She is also the first one to want to go into the water!

As the trees and flowers come to life and then go dormant in the fall, we enjoy walking around our property checking out what is new and talking about how it all works.  I will identify the plants with the children and if they want to pick flowers, I let them!  Plus, it melts my heart that my young ones want to pick flowers for me and they are so excited and proud too!  We check out all the different leaves, nuts and fruits/seeds that fall from the trees.  It's great to be hands on with nature!  This past spring we started vegetable seeds inside with hopes of having a successful garden.  The children enjoyed helping me set it all up and watching the seeds sprout and grow.  However, things didn't go quite as planned with the vegetable garden... (See my Massive Pepper Harvest post)

There are creatures galore around here!  We have bird feeders that we try to keep filled in the front and in the back and a bird identification book that has gotten lots of use.  There are song birds, falcons and water fowl!  The kids have fun checking out and researching all the different bugs we find too and since we are on the lake, there are fish!  D knows all the species in our lake and many more!

Our family just doesn't stay at home enjoying nature, although we could!  The boys play organized baseball, we all participate in water sports, and the children like to do all other sports and activities too!  Bike riding, running, basketball, soccer, football and playing tag, hide and go seek and other fun games keep them entertained and happy outside.  This summer we explored underground caves, checked out new lakes for fishing and had a lot of family fun!  As we travel my husband and I are always pointing out interesting features to the children.  Windmill farms, natural sand dunes along Lake Michigan, rivers and wetlands, farms and fields, forests and new development along with many other topics are discussed and explained.

In the colder months, there are still fun things to do to keep the children focused on nature.  The boys enjoy riding on their little snowmobiles and ice fishing.  There are also snowmen to be made and icicles to eat.  When we can't get outside the kids will watch PBS nature documentaries and other animal and nature based shows such as Wild Kratts, Dinosaur Train and Octonauts.

Our children have an inherent desire to learn and we do our best to help them understand how systems are connected and how humans impact the environment.  We stress the importance of the environment and natural systems and hope that in doing so, we are raising children who care about those things.  Even though our children are still young, by their actions, questions and observations it is evident that it is working!  They are interested in nature and the environment and tread lightly - stewards of the land already!

My Nature! posts will cover a wide range of environmental topics including much of what I mentioned in previous posts as well as other interests not directly related to my career.  I'll be discussing gardening, recycling, rain water capture, landscape maintenance tips, native, introduced and invasive plant species, fishing, hunting, birds and other fauna, spending time outdoors with my family, tips for being outside with kids and more!  If you have any type of nature related topic that you would like me to cover, please let me know!  I'll be happy to fit it into the schedule.

LET'S LEARN! - R.C. ESSENTIAL OIL

Let's learn about R.C. Essential Oil!  R.C. Essential Oil is a Young Living trademarked blend of numerous essential oils.  As with all of the Young Living Essential Oils, R.C. can be used in multiple ways.

R.C. EO is made up of the following 10 essential oils:

All of the individual oils found in R.C. EO are shown to help support either a healthy respiratory system or cardiovascular system, or both!  Many also contribute to the wellness of the skin and nervous system.  So it is not surprising that R.C. is typically used in homemade vapor rubs to help treat symptoms from colds and other respiratory issues.  Athletes have even been known to rub some R.C. on their chests prior to a work out, to really "open" them up.

Since beginning my oily journey, I have enjoyed using R.C. EO.  I have applied it to my children's chests, backs, throats and feet diluted with a carrier oil, usually coconut oil, and have diffused it in their bedrooms at night.  For myself, I have diffused R.C. with Lavender EO next to my bed at night.  That is one of the most pleasant aromas ever!  (In my opinion).  The blend was very soothing when I was anticipating a restless night of sleep.  I may even continue diffusing R.C. and Lavender even when I don't really think it is necessary!  Give it a try!  It is amazing!

If you have already used R.C. EO, please share how you use it!
